In 6th grade English, students were studying metaphors and similes--a hard concept to grasp!  In order to make it more concrete the language arts teacher and I decided to do a lesson on the MIMIO interactive whiteboard system.  This would let me model a lesson using the MIMIO for the teacher and help make metaphors and similes more clear for students.

Using the MIMIO students and I went through a lesson from their book which included annotating a poem and pulling out the metaphors and similes, dissecting those metaphors and similes, and finally we used the MIMIO to grab pictures and break down what each metaphor really meant.

Students walked away with better understanding of figurative language and the teacher walked away with new ideas on how to use the MIMIO in her classroom!
