School Library Competencies

Students are responsible for demonstrating the following competencies in their portfolios.

1. Reflective Practice
        • Take a systems view.
        • Demonstrate tools for problem solving
        • Promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships for program development and increased student achievement.
        • Be a lifelong learner and professional.
        • Conduct a needs assessment for learning or program development.

2. Program Planning and Analysis
        • Conduct a needs assessment for learning or program development.
        • Instructional analysis.
        • Promote ethical use of information.

3. Design and Development
        • Apply current research and best practices to design instructional materials.
        • Use differentiated learning strategies that address the needs of diverse learners such as cultural, learning needs,  
           gender, etc.
        • Develop products and resources to support learning and performance with appropriate tools.

4. Evaluation and Assessment
        • Evaluate effectiveness of programs, products, or practices.
        • Assess student/participant learning.
        • Utilize research methods to investigate a learning or performance problem, issue, or trend.

5. Implementation and Change
        • Apply theories of change to a local problem.
        • Participate in an implementation process or change strategy.

6. Management
        • Employ effective strategies to administer the school library program.
        • Demonstrate the use of data in the improvement of the school library program.
        • Demonstrate the use of technology in the improvement of the school library program.
        • Integrate principles of intellectual freedom.
